Behind the Mic - "Where We're Going"

Thanks for checking in for the 2nd edition of Behind the Mic. For those of you who are new to my blog, Behind the Mic is a post that I do periodically for each of my songs, giving you a behind the scenes story of how the song came to fruition.

Today, we're going to go on a journey to another dimension with the adrenaline pumping song "Where We're Going."

This song is about life. It touches base on the hardships and pain of trying to succeed and feeling like nothing is going right. In this song, I try to create a motivational push to hype up the listener and have them finish the song feeling like they can achieve anything.

In the beginning of this song, you will hear what seems to be a train conductor. I added this element because I wanted the listener to feel like they have sat down for a ride - almost like a short story for the mind.

Attendant:
Welcome to the YTR Dream Lounge. Today we are going to take you places that you have never heard, nor seen in your life.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride… Because after this journey, you will begin to question your life…
(Tracks on the “ride” begin clicking)

I did this to simulate the feeling of a roller coaster ticking its way to the peak of the ride so it can descend into the ride.

You will notice there's a slight pause when you head the initial hook to the song. that is to mimic the feeling you get when you stop at the very top of the roller coaster before it falls. Then with the crash of the cymbal, the song is in full speed.

So now, not to quote the attendant at the beginning of the song: Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for listening.

Behind The Mic - "Hold On Til' You Feel It"

"Hold On Til' You Feel It"... A song with many references to space, and universal connections... how does a Hip-Hop/Rap song like this even spawn?

When I write music I like to look at it as if I am telling a short story. I don't look at myself as a rapper who writes his music about the streets, or about the money, and fame... I like to write stories that you can escape to...

In this particular story I entered the Sci-Fi realm, entertaining the concept of their being much more to this world than just us... With so many more unexplained phenomenons on Earth, it leaves you with only one answer... intelligence from beyond our dimension! A crazy concept to fathom for some, but with all the facts how do we deny that there is more to this world than just you and I? The line "Life today is just passing by, media, music, and the FBI, all controlling what it is we do, all controlling what it is we knew..." is in reference to the many cover ups by the federal government and the influences the music and media industry has on so much of the world today. I even dabble in the unlikely event that we are able to speak and meet our intelligent dimensional friends, and what it would be like! I put in the actual audio from the moon landing to symbolize our governments reach beyond this world... with a subtle reference to "Dark Side Of The Moon".

I collaborated with ERP Studios out of Greenville, SC on this song for the lead guitar played by Eric Rogers. We wanted to create an impactful sound that TRULY hadn't been captured in the Hip-Hop/Rap world with an actual Rock & Roll sound including a solo and actual percussion while still staying true to the tune with the hip-hop vibe and flow.

I hope you enjoy this Sci-Fi journey, and let your mind escape for a few minutes while you... "Hold On Til' You Feel It"!

Let The Journey Begin....The Oracle

As an artist I try to send messages through music... I like to paint pictures through lyrics, and take you places through sounds... I hope you enjoy these singles from my latest album concept, "The Oracle"...

My goal for this album is to deliver positive messages to the listener through the lyrics I have written, while still taking you away to a place that is almost space-like... I want to create an atmosphere for your mind to escape.

Enjoy...
